Concept
Applied Cognitive and Media Science (in German Angewandte Kognitions- und Medienwissenschaft or KOMEDIA) is an interdisciplinary program that provides a broad range of knowledge and skills in the fields of new media and human-computer interaction from the perspectives of computer science, psychology, and business. Since it can be difficult for new students to adjust to the course and timetable, my group and I created this boardgame to make the transition to university more pleasant and easier.
Students learn more about the courses, how many credits they should earn, which subjects they should learn, and who the professors are for which lectures after playing this boardgame.
Main elements
This boardgame is essentially a combination of a dice game and a card game.
There are 117 total cards, including 96 standard play cards and 21 special effect cards. The standard cards have four colors that represent the four fields of the KOMEDIA course (Psychology, IT, Bussiness and Supplementary area).
For each color, there are different cards with numbers ranging from 1 to 6, representing the six semesters that one student must complete in order to graduate from the course. In addition, the boardgame includes one set of instructions, one dice, and four characters.
Special cards
The special cards have various effects that either help or hinder the player's ability to "graduate."
